Kelly and her OTTB gelding Poe compete in three day eventing together – which means they’re both pretty bad-ass – which also means that Poe is BOMB PROOF. I’ve had easygoing horses on shoots before, I’ve had energetic horses and lazy horses and opinionated horses – but Poe wins for most laid-back horse ever. We were waving pompoms and playing whinnies and there were cows in an adjacent field – nothing bothered him. He was perfectly content to be held and cuddled by his mom and take the evening off from training. Poe is boarded at an absolutely stunning facility up in Califon, and I really had my work cut out for me that evening with the beautiful light through the trees.
